Motor-homing the Long Paddock

A luxurious step back in time

Imagine this. You wake up and see a stunning sky of oranges, blush pinks, and blue spread above some of the flattest land you have ever seen.

You spot a kangaroo nearby, an emu down the road and even an eagle soaring overhead.

It seems perfect, but its not a dream, it’s actually my experience along The Long Paddock touring route. And I’m here to tell you all about it and how you can experience the beauty of this region.

As a caravan lover, I believe there is only one way to do this 610km stretch from Echuca and Moama through to Wilcannia in the north.

It’s caravans of course, or in this case, Molly the Motorhome. I recommend Molly as she’s easy and comfortable to travel in and is completely decked out for short term camping – meaning you can pull up for the night or just soak up the sun in your new favourite spot.

It’s a big part of why I started Edward River Caravan Hire because I think everyone should have easy access to experiences like these. And with 70,000k’s of solo towing and Australian exploring behind me, I like to make things easy for others – that’s why I organise all the details, you just pack up, pick up and head off on an adventure.

I have now expanded my fleet to include four caravans and a motorhome, and I am the only business in this area that will let you hitch up and head to your destination, as well as offering Molly the motorhome.

The best thing though is that we are located in the beautiful small town of Deniliquin, which I now call home. And if you didn’t already know, Deni is the third stop in The Long Paddock touring route, so why not start in Echuca, stay the night and check out the amazing history and attractions before travelling through Mathoura, and on to Deniliquin to pick up your vehicle of choice.

The reason I recommend Molly the Motorhome for this trip is because she offers so much comfort and functionality, that you won’t believe you are on the road. It really is a home on wheels.

Molly can be driven on a normal driver’s licence, plus sleep up to six with the rear lounge converting to a double bed, dining area to a double bed and a super comfortable permanent overhead cabin with a king size bed.

Being a motorhome there is no fiddling with electricals or chains, just pull up and relax.

One of my favourite features is the huge rear lounging area so you can watch TV, pop a movie in the DVD player, or simply watch the landscapes and wildlife pass you as you travel.

There is also a fully functioning ensuite, meaning there is no need to find amenities –  which, having used Molly for my own travels, is just so convenient.

For your comfort, Molly also includes a solar panel which helps run the hot water, compressor fridge, TV, USB charging points, and of course there is direct access to the driver’s cabin and a spacious kitchen area.

And when on 240v power you have access to the microwave and split system for heating and cooling. It really is perfect, and you’ll find yourself starting to question why you’ve never travelled like this before.

But enough about my amazing fleet, I want to tell you more about The Long Paddock touring route.

The name is actually the colloquial term for stock routes that cross Australia. And this one, following the Cobb Highway, takes you through some of the most unique landscapes in Australia including the Hay Plains, which as I mentioned before, is renowned as the flattest place in the southern hemisphere.

It also crosses some of the most historically important agricultural country in Australia, and of course there are plenty of small, unique towns perfect to stop for a meal, a little shop, or to check out the arts and culture this region so proudly displays.

And speaking of the arts, The Long Paddock boasts eleven large scale sculptures that tell the stories, tales and history of this region too. They are not only a great photo opportunity, but they also reflect the heart and soul of these small rural communities. It is a part of the world that more people need to see, and I can help you do that.

This is true Australian outback.
